Taylor Swift's Iconic Style and Love of Aran Jumpers

Taylors Swift eighth studio album , Folklore, was released in July 2020. The album was a move away for her more recent pop influenced albums back to the country and folk inspired music of her younger days. The album was influenced heavily by nature with Swift depicted walking barefoot through forests and at peace with nature.

This return to natural things continues with the cover art featuring Swift wearing a traditional Aran jumper. Swift has a huge following on instagram - nearly 137 million people there is no doubt Swift's fashion choice will lead to huge demand for this "geansai" (which means jumper or sweater in the tradiotnal Irish gaelic dialect).

The young music artist has been at the top of the music industry for over 10 years. She has always been an ispiration for her fans, especially in her fashion choices. She is loved by both designers and fashion brands having done runway shows for Victoria Secret and is collaborating with designer Stella McCartney on her new range. She has sported a variety of looks - from casual to party, country to rock. Taylor is extremely fashion conscience, and keeps up to date with all new trends. She has become a major style icon for a large number of millenials. If you are one of the millennial kids for Taylors generation, then you would surely relate to her fashion sense. She has got a cool eclectic style.

Taylors choice of the Aran jumper is a significant one. In one shot Swift is styled as the sweet girl next door with her fringe over her eyes and eyes pulled to her chest finished off with the Aran knit. Given the history and mythology that surrounds the Aran jumper it is an apt choice.

Hailing from the three small islands of Inishmore (or Inis Mór), Inishmaan (Inis Meáin), and Inisheer (Inis Oírr) off the coast of western Ireland . Traditionally made from undyed báinín — sheep’s wool, the jumpers are normally cream coloured and each weave and pattern has a different meaning/ significance. The patterns can mean various things such as good luck on the rough seas or future wealth for the wearer.

The Aran jumper is an iconic symbol of Ireland, as iconic as say the kilt is to Scotland or the beret to France. The picture of the singer wearing the iconic garmet has caused a massive stir online and in Ireland. Even Vogue magazine wrote about the singers fashion choice! - https://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/article/aran-knit-renaissance .

Sales of the Aran jumper have surged with many manufacturers in Ireland having to take on more knitters as a result. The driver for this uptick in demand has been the increased popularity of the jumpers in the US.

Aran Woollen Mills, a knitwear manufacturer in Westport, Co Mayo, said its sales had nearly doubled by the middle of 2020 — and also credited Taylor with the uptick in sales. Vincent Hughes (owner at Aran Mills) said: “There has been a big online demand for Aran garments and, of course, famous people wearing them will always help the sales.”

Of course this is not the first time a celebrity has worn the iconic Aran jumper with stars suchs as Grace Kelly, Elvis Presley, Steve McQueen, and more recently Chris Evan (The Avengers), all having the worn the jumpers before.
