Aran Mills knitted products are high quality wool knitted apparel which are built to last and with the right care last you a lifetime. Here are the best ways to wash and store your Aran Mills clothing to keep it looking new.
Handwashing:
Aran Mills clothing as with most wool knitted clothing is not machine washable so to wash these they either need to be dry cleaned or the preferred method is hand washing. To do this you should turn these products inside out, wash these items in lukewarm and clean water, using mild detergent which can be used on wool and do not use any detergent containing bleach or similar harsh chemicals. You should allow your Aran Mills product to soak for a period of 10 minutes before gently rinsing the detergent off and remembering not to rub this as this may cause pulling in the knitting.
Re-Shaping:
It is recommended that you re-shape Aran Mills products while they are still damp, this removes a chance that the product dries mis-shapen. To do this you should place your jumper on a flat surface between two soft dish towels, these help remove excess moisture from the product as if you wring it out, spin it in a washing machine or put it in a tumble drier this may cause the product to warp or shrink. Gently pressing the product between the two dish towels you can remove the excess water and help it maintain its shape without stretching it or causing pulling in the patterns.
Drying:
Aran Mills products should be dried laying flat across a drying rack and away from heat such as radiators or direct sunlight. This is because if these are left to dry on a radiator it could cause the jumper to shrink and if it left hanging rather than drying it flat this could cause it to scratch the knitting and it would no longer fit right and may disrupt the pattern. Reminder never tumble dry these items as they will shrink and no longer fit.
Storage:
We recommend when storing an Aran Mills jumper to not hang any jumpers as this may cause them to warp and stretch so it wouldn't fit nice. The best way to store one of these knitwear products is to fold it loosely as it is not designed to be tightly folded away, and store it folded away in a drawer without any items pressing down on it. Wool products can also attract moths so we recommend storing the jumper with some dried lavender as this keeps away the moths and also leaves the wool smelling lovely.
Piling:
Piling on a wool product is when due to regular wear a product begins to develop small balls of fluffy wool on the surface of the product, usually from repeated friction or rubbing. These can appear anywhere on a wool jumper but can be removed using everyday household items such as a comb. You can also buy specific de-pilling devices or fabric shavers to help remove these. Please be gentle when removing these from your knitted wool products as if you are not you may form holes in the products.
